Cabanas de Tavira is a former fishing village, about 7Km from the main city of Tavira to the East side. It holds a little more than 1000 permanent residents, and its beautiful and clean beaches turn it into a popular tourist destination in the summer, being the most visited parish throughout the year. This parish still lives mainly from fishing, contributing to the enrichment of the local gastronomy with products like tuna fish and razor clams.
The village structure is composed by a long line of low-rise houses, shops, bars and restaurants facing the Ria Formosa Nature Park. Tavira´s coastline is calm and peaceful, with extremely inviting white sand beaches and very warm water. The beaches are crossed by Ria Formosa Natural Reserve, offering pleasant boat trips and the chance to observe the typical wetland flora and fauna, most particularly the water birds.
If you are looking to play golf, Tavira has its own 18-hole golf course, Benamor Golf, which was designed by Sir Henry Cotton and opened in March 2000.
